As a lifelong fan of the Steelers, I felt that their brand and image, while traditional and timeless, was in need of a refresh. I studied recent rebrands by teams in Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland to figure out how to modernize the classic Steelers look without creating something that would alienate the fanbase.
I tweaked the iconic Steelmark logo and Steelers wordmark, adding a stencil effect reminiscent of vintage industrial design and typography. I also introduced a new number font, based on Bebas Neue, using the same stencil effect.
With the NFL relaxing their rules for multiple helmet designs beginning in 2023, I also created a new alternate helmet for the Steelers, using a matte black shell with single-color decals for use with their Color Rush and new gold alternate uniforms.
